Noise Pollution in the City

In simple term Noise is a unwanted sound -viewed as "nuisance" rather than an environmental problem since 1970. Dr. Paul Herman wrote the first noise code in 1975 for Portland and become the basis of Noise Code for most other ordinances for major U.S. and Canadian Region. Municipalities and government do not follow any laws; code for noise in India.

Major transportation system is source of noise pollution including Motor Vehicle, aircraft, rail noise and poor urban planning give rise to noise pollution, since side by side industrial and residential buildings can result in noise pollution in the residential area. Marriage Band, religious programme, emergency vehicle alarm and political campaign also lead to big noise nuisance on the city street. Hindu and Muslim's festivals like Diwali, Uttarayan, Rathyatra and Tajiya leading the city street noisy by firing crackers and rally on the city street.

Apartment dwellers are often annoyed by noise in their homes, especially when the building is not well designed and constructed. In this case, internal building noise from water pipe, playing children, washing clothe manually by wooden stick, television, audio entertainment music system, generators, barking dogs, loudspeakers, air conditioners, noisy people can be audible and annoying. Improperly insulated walls and ceilings can reveal the unwanted sound.

There are many side effects of Excessive noise on human as well as on animal life. Continuous noise can damage human nervous system like deprive of sleep, high blood pressure, loose their concentration, temporary or permanent deafness, and many more can be unknown by scientist.

Every city in India have biggest nuisance of is traffic noise. It is difficult to find any street without traffic noise. Constantly blowing horn by the driver of vehicles make the NOISE pollution. The digging of the roads and disorganised parking on the road make the road narrow for traffic to pass and annoying

two wheeler and four wheeler drivers in rush, blowing the horn constantly. Unnecessary road bumps and patches make vehicle stop and again accelerate again adds more noise and typically designed vehicles' silencer and diesel engines make humming noise all day on busy road. Rail passing noise can be heard from almost two and half kilometre at night and rail drivers constantly blow their horn even at night to make sure the rail track clear from wandering animals.

If you love calm atmosphere and buying a house in city you should be careful about certain things like the house is not close to 1. Express highway 2. Railway Track 3. School and should have nice neighbourhood (understanding not to allow noise like marriage band, religious band, barking dogs and political noise nuisance.)

You can also help community reduce noise in your town, when you listen to music you mustn't go beyond certain limits. Or if you are going by car or scooter and you are trapped in traffic jam you shouldn't touch the horn because in this way you don't cause noise.

Driving Sense - Parking Sense in India

Why people do not have traffic sense in India? One of the most obvious reasons is population. The streets are overcrowded. The other is that we have never realized that we need a traffic sense. It is not an issue driving in a haphazard, zigzag manner. It becomes a problem when we do it at the expense of the other driver's peace of mind. Everyone, be it the person riding the two-wheeler or the person driving the auto or the four-wheeler, wants to be the first one reaching their respective destinations. So, we drive rashly without the slightest thought about the others on the road.



Driving with a care for others on the road will make the ride a peaceful & safe one for yourself and as well as others. We are not signal-abiding citizens but constable-abiding citizens. Even when the signal is RED, we see if the traffic constable is present. If not, we proceed to go ahead. We don?t even realize that we are breaking rules. The whole idea of a traffic signal is to prevent traffic. We are ready to break the law just because we hate to wait for a minute, sometimes even less. A one more reason for careless driver is our Indian law do not help accident victim and the victim has loose in most of cases not the driver.



All these drivers are in so much of a hurry to reach their destinations that they could not care less for safety of pedestrians and other drivers. Similarly, when we are driving towards the signal and we see it in YELLOW, we accelerate to cross the signal before it turns RED. This is sure to cause of many accidents. we ever seen speed limits on the road? There are speed limits for every road and there are signs indicating this somewhere on the side of the road. We need to make sure that we are aware of these things.


Though we have read this in our elementary classes, somewhere during our growing up years, we have forgotten it. Try to look for speed limits and try to follow them as much as possible. Speed thrill but kills . Try to cross the roads considering the drivers coming at high speed for your own safety and to avoid accidents. Try to follow the lane and think 10 times before crossing from one lane to another.
The same things happen with parking, it is so randomly parked in many of street and also the Street vendors and retail shop keeper covers the footpath and parking. Drivers of two wheeler and four wheeler do not bother to park their vehicle on the road. Corrupted police and corrupted traffic police both are also responsible for such terrible parking.

If you have car or planning buy one, don't forget to buy a parking in your Apartment and don't feel bad if somebody scratch your car on busy street.

City road digging nuisance

Digging up of roads is a duty for every authority both Government and non-government , the Sewerage Board, the water supply, Electricity Board, gas supply and of course the private companies. The digging process happens almost every month causing hassles to the public.

A nuisance to the public, we are losing out on space to walk. There is no use of complaining to any authority. Traffic have very bad situation during pick hour. Every month these authority has new digging job around in radius of 1 kms. of my home. Looks like they are in chaos in making roads and again within six months or so, they come back to break the road.

Some of dug outs done without permission and municipality or any other authority does not bother. Shops keeper and traders comes on pavement and digging people block the road and parking is already a big trouble. Walkers take defending themselves as they walk almost on the middle of the road. After the digging process is complete, the roads are just given a patchy touch-up with no good completion.

What kind of development is this with India. Every road constructed in the city is not used for atleast one year and the digging workers come on the road. We should have better planning , better management for the city.

LOOKING forward, a day will come with better management. They will give permission to construct building with all required utilities and connections. There will be better management and the leaders in the city to manage the city better.
